Older but No Wiser: Neutrophils, epithelium, and age-associated susceptibility to bacterial pneumonia. Hybrid presentation by Dr. John Leong of Tufts University School of Medicine.
Zoom registration available here. (Note: Zoom attendance requires registration prior to presentation.)
About Dr. John Leong:
Dr. John Leong’s research has utilized genetic, biochemical, cell biological and animal modeling approaches to investigate the interaction of bacterial pathogens with the host, specifically focusing on the bacterial pathogens, enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, Lyme disease bacteria and Pneumococcus. Among these pathogens, Pneumococcus has greater risks to cause serious illness and death in older adults. He is going to present his findings on how age-related changes in our immune cell, neutrophils, interacting with respiratory epithelium as contributing age-associated susceptibility to Pneumococcus infection. Mechanistically elucidating such dysregulated immune responses during aging would provide novel therapeutic approaches to overcome Pneumococcus infections in the elderly.
