Join Dean Cribb as we recognize Joe McManus on his retirement, with a reception to be held on December 11, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. in theElm's Cafe area of the Varis Campus Center.

Joe McManus, the former Executive Associate Dean, will be retiring as of January 1, 2024 after 41 years with Cummings School. Over his long career, he has played a critical role in managing and developing the school with a focus on financial management and strategic planning. Joe began his career in 1982 as a Staff Accountant in the Tufts Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.  In 1984 he was promoted to Budget and Fiscal Officer, and in 1986 he was promoted to Hospital Administrator. In 1993, Joe became the Associate Dean for Administration and Finance and then served as the Executive Associate Dean for 14 years, from 2009 until July 1, 2023.  Joe is currently concentrating on special projects until his retirement.  

Joe serves as Treasurer of J.M. Holdings, Inc., which was responsible for the creation of the Grafton Science Park. He is also the President of Tufts Veterinary Emergency Treatment and Specialties, Inc. (Tufts VETS) in Walpole, MA.  Joe has worked with many deans over the years and was heavily engaged with our hospital and clinical operations.  He has been instrumental in the growth and management of many of our business development activities, including Tufts VETS, the Tufts Biotechnology Transfer Center, the New England Regional Biosafety Laboratory, the Grafton Science Park, and more.  Joe has had a long and successful career with Cummings School and will be greatly missed.
