About this Event
The How We "Role" afterschool program at Belmont Community Elementary School in Worcester begins Tuesday. Jaunary 17. The first session will be facilitated by Dr Cyndie Wester and Dr Trinita Barboza. They will be introducing 15 elementary school children to what it means to be a veterinarian. The How We "Role" program is supported by the Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) program of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and awarded to Purdue University. Cummings has been a participating partner for the last several years. About 20 other veterinary schools across the country also participate.
The Cummings outreach program occurs for 8 weeks on Tuesday afternoon from 2 PM to 4 PM January through March at the Belmont Community Elementary School. The school is located just down the street from Tufts at TECH in Worcester. Faculty, staff and students deliver curricular units developed by the Purdue How We Role program. Units include introductions to different careers in veterinary medicine like working with dairy cows, exotics, small animals or horses and introductions to common disease states like asthma and diabetes.
If any one is interested in volunteering please contact Cyndie Webster (cynthia.leveille-webster@tufts.edu), the program coordinator, there is some space left.
