September 28 is World Rabies Day, a global health observance focused on awareness about the world’s deadliest infectious disease. The goal is to bring together partners to enhance prevention and control efforts worldwide. Our own Occupational Health team will be in the Bumpus Lobby on Wednesday from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. They will be there not only to share information on rabies, but to show you some of the safety equipment you can use to protect yourself when working with at risk animals. And of course, there will be giveaways.

The Occupational Health team, under Dr. Michael Jordan, was instrumental in helping us bring in a rabies vaccination policy and in bringing vaccination to our campus. We are also working on a new set of guidelines on bites and scratches, which will help us to further reduce health risks.

Even if you think you know all about rabies, please drop by to meet our Occupational Health team.
